WHO? |
Members
of the Houston community who believe that despite having the
nation’s worst flooding problem, the issue of flooding has not
been given the attention it deserves.
We represent a cross-section of Houstonians, from flood
victims, activists, environmentalists, to sportsman, community
leaders, and students. Flooding affects everyone regardless of
political affiliation. Most
importantly we are all concerned citizens working hard to make
Houston a better place to live for all its residents.

WHAT? |
Houston Voters
Against Flooding is a
non-partisan action
and information center dedicated
to making flooding a front burner political issue in
Houston by increasing awareness, organizing voters, and by proposing
solutions that we will challenge political candidates to support.
Our goal is simple: work
to stop the worsening of our flooding problem and we
hope to achieve it through the political process through a
grassroots effort. We
believe government is not
powerless to act. We
will work to propose solutions |

WHERE? |
The Houston Metropolitan Area, know as the Bayou City, has one of the worst flooding problems in the United States. An area that will never be able to address its serious image problem until base issues such as flood management and prevention are dealt with in an effective manner that is fair to all citizens. |

WHEN? |
The
2003 City elections and beyond! A strong network of people dedicated
to voting on the flooding issue will continue to place electoral
pressure on elected officials and candidates for office until the
issues are dealt with in an acceptable manner. |

WHY? |
We value fairness, justice and a better quality of life for Houstonians. We believe it is essential to educate the public about flooding. It is important for all citizens to have a voice in public affairs, by using the electoral process to influence policy. We want to bring ideas to the table, and use our actions to show our strong commitment to solving our flooding problem. It is our belief that providing solutions rather than simply complaining will help us create a better future for Houston. |

HOW? |
We plan to build a
grassroots network of voters who will vote the flood issue in
November. We will prepare a flood management/prep platform and
challenge candidates to support it. |
